Heel Pain

Pain in the heel can be caused by a number of conditions.

Causes of heel pain

Pain within the heel:

- osteomyelitis (infection of bone)
- tumours
- Paget's disease
- arthritis of the subtalar joint

Pain behind the heel:

- ruptured Achilles tendon
- Achilles tendinitis

Pain under the heel:

- tender heel pad
- plantar fasciitis
- plantar calcaneal bursitis

Treatment of heel pain

Treatment will depend on the cause of the heel pain.
